Thursday 20th September: Kumarakom Lake Resort
Day 4 of our conference already! Where does the time go?
Well today it went in a whirl of activities.
The tea pavilion: from 4.00pm to 5.30pm daily, tea is served in the garden with accompanying treats. The chai is fragrant and fabulous.
Zoe and Marcia leaving the Yoga Pavilion which looked out over the lake. A perfect location to relax and stretch ( and to try not to think about the pain!)
While some hardy souls partook in pre-breakfast activities (yoga, gym, swimming), our conference morning began with a presentation by a young, local film maker, Shruthi. She spoke of the difficulties of being a female film maker in India where males dominate, before playing three of her short films. These are stories relevant to her culture and all were filled with colour, passion and life.
Our next session comprised of three delegates presenting on their experience working on international development projects: Di Albiston on Mental Health in Indonesia; Sue Ieraci on Emergency Medicine in Sri Lanka and Anne Smyth on Capacity Development for Women in Fiji. The work these women have undertaken is outstanding.
A long lunch in one of the dining rooms
A group lunch rounded up our morning and left us with the afternoon to spend as we pleased. Massages, swimming, gym, afternoon kips followed by drinks at Jenny and Di’s room and dinner in the open air restaurant. I believe I see a pattern to the afternoons!
